GIRARD — Prior to the Girard school board’s Thursday meeting, the group toured the facilities for a construction update.

Superintendent of Schools Blaise Bauer said there were “minor change orders” and all construction is “on track.”

The school board approved a $15,000 state grant for a summer program with elementary students, a $1,000 literacy grant from Walmart also for elementary students and a $500 cash kick-back from Community National Bank for when people swipe a Trojans’ card.

Girard Chamber of Commerce Director Julie Smith spoke to the board about Second Annual Trojan Entrepreneurship Challenge held in March. The competition taught students entrepreneur skills and awarded $1,000 to Kendall Belcher for winning first place.

The board also approved the high school band’s trip to Florida in November where they will perform at Walt Disney World. The band fundraises to support an out-of-state trip every four years.
