Summer is here and that means it’s time for road construction to get underway.
Chief among area projects slated to begin soon is the reconstruction of the Kansas Highway 7/Highway 47 intersection in Girard.
Girard City Administrator Chris Weiner said the intersection will shut down June 1 and is scheduled to reopen Oct. 1.
The entire area will be closed to through traffic until the project is complete and the Kansas Department of Transportation will have detours set up around town.
K7 will be down to one lane during construction but is scheduled to be open before school starts later this year.
The City of Pittsburg will undertake several construction projects this summer as well, including:
• Overlay Jefferson street from Broadway to Georgia.
• Overlay West 20th from Pine Street to US 69 bypass.
• Mill and overlay two inches of asphalt on Rouse Street between Quincy and the railroad tracks South of Quincy and Rouse intersection.
Several other minor projects are planned as well.
