PITTSBURG — Area dogs and cats could have a new home after this weekend thanks to Petsense.
Petsense locations across the nation will partner with local animal shelters and rescue organizations for its semi-annual adopt-a-thon. The Pittsburg location is taking part for its first year.
“The goal is to help 1,000 pets be adopted company wide,” Store Manager Michelle Spigarelli said.
Pittsburg Petsense will definitely have three rescue organizations taking part, with two other possibly joining in. Spigarelli said she expects eight to 10 animals to come from each organization.
Each adoption comes with a free goodie bag with pet accessories, as well as a bag of dog food. The cost for adoptions will vary based on the rescue organization.
The adopt-a-thon will take place in the parking lot of the Petsense store. Dogs will be available for adoption outside and cats from the SEK Humane Society will be inside the store. Spigarelli said there will be a photo booth for visitors to take pictures with pets, as well as other activities.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Spigarelli said the adopt-a-thon will take place rain or shine.
“The weather is supposed to be good this weekend, so I hope we will have a good turnout and help a lot of animals,” Spigarelli said.
