Coats for Folks

The Salvation Army needs your gently used, cold-weather coat, hats, scarves and gloves. Bring the donation door or barrels located around town, or A-Plus Cleaners and those that need them will get them for free. The drive will continue until Oct. 31.

 

Bingo Bash and Chili Feed

Southeast Junior High Parent Teacher Organization will host the bash and feed at the junior high school, 206 West Magnolia in Cherokee. There will be cash prizes for bingo, plus chili, coneys, chili pie and raffles. Tickets and food go on sale at 6 p.m. Bingo starts at 7 p.m.

 

Rocktoberfest

The festival to benefit Lord’s Diner will be at Lincoln Park from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $10. There will be live music, food and drinks.

 

Pittsburg Scrabble Club

The group will meet at the Pittsburg Public Library from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. New players are always welcome.

Manicure, pedicure, and haircut fundraiser

Co-Dependents Anonymous

TOPS 0599 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday at St. Mary’s Grade School located at 301 E. 9th. Private weigh-ins are from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and are designed to provide motivation and support to help members reach their weight loss goals. Visitors are always welcome. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) 0975, Girard, meets every Monday at 511 N. Western in Girard, KS. Private weigh-in will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 5:45 p.m. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. A support and motivational program is presented each week to encourage members to reach and maintain weight loss goals. Yoga Class

A yoga class will be conducted every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center located at 3003 N. Joplin St with a licensed yoga teacher. The class will offer flow style yoga, which is appropriate for all levels, including beginners. Bring your beautiful self, dressed in comfortable clothes, water and a yoga mat (a few extras will be on hand). The price is donation based, but $7 is recommended.

 

NAMI Southeast Kansas

The NAMI family support group and a NAMI connections group meet on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Pittsburg Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Pine.

 

American Legion Post 64

Pittsburg American Legion Post #64 will hold their meeting every third Monday of each month at 7pm. All members are encouraged to attend.

 

Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas

Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, the first Medicare Benefits Enrollment Center in Kansas, will have Benefits Enrollment Counselors available at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 100 S. Cherokee in Frontenac every second Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to answer questions, review your situation and help determine what other programs for which you may qualify. There is absolutely no cost for the service as the expense is covered by the National Council on Aging. Call the Benefits Enrollment Center at 620-240-5601 to set up an appointment or for more information.

Arma American Legion will have bingo open to the public with games starting at 6:30 p.m. This week’s blackout pays $300 for 50 numbers. High roller progressive will pay $1,199 this week.
