PITTSBURG — The University of Kansas is celebrating the work of students in Crawford County Monday.
The University of Kansas Alumni Association and KU Endowment are hosting a dinner for 75 high school seniors from Crawford and Cherokee counties.
The students will be recognized for their academic achievements and as Kansas Honor Scholars at the 6:30 p.m. dinner at Memorial Auditorium.
“The dinner will recognize students who were in the top 10 percent of their class,” Crawford and Cherokee County Coordinator Karen Odgers said.
The program has been in place since 1971 and honored 125,000 students.
At the dinner, students will be presented with a Webster’s New College Dictionary, and will hear a presentation from KU Director of Administration, and Pittsburg High School graduate, Lisa Pinamonti Kress.
Odgers said any local KU alumni are welcome to attend the dinner or support the event through donations. All meals for students are provided by alumni donations.
