PITTSBURG — A Girard man was taken by helicopter ambulance to Freeman Hospital in Joplin following a three-vehicle wreck Friday.
According to a release from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Cody Pierce, 26, of Girard, was travelling west on Kansas Highway 126 driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am Friday afternoon. According to CRSO, Pierce crossed the centerline and struck a 1987 dump truck driven by Robert Spragg, 48, of Pittsburg. The two vehicles collided head on.
Transmission fluid, oil and diesel fuel leaked from the dump truck onto the ground from damage caused by the impact. The fluid prevented a 2008 Buick Enclave — driven by Leslie Hines, 35, of Pittsburg — from stopping. The Buick collided with the rear of the dump truck, causing damage to the Buick.
Neither Hines nor the two children riding with her were injured. However, Pierce was taken by helicopter to Freeman Hospital with possible severe injuries. Spragg was taken by personal vehicle to Via Christi Hospital with minor injuries.
According to Freeman Media Relations Coordinator Shannon Bruffett, Pierce was admitted to Freeman, and is listed in good condition.
The wreck is still under investigation by CRSO.
