USD 248 Board of Education

USD 248-Girard Board of Education will meet at the Board of Education Office in Girard at 5:30 p.m. for a work session. The purpose of the meeting is to review the current district strategic plan and begin developing an updated five-year plan. The regular board meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) 0884 meetings are held each Thursday at Knights of Columbus Towers, 700 N. Pine. Frontenac American Legion conducts bingo games every Thursday evening at the Frontenac Senior Citizen Center located at 113 N. Crawford in Frontenac. Cards go on sale at 5:30 p.m. and play begins at 6:30 p.m.

Northeast Arma Alumni Banquet

The Arma-NE Banquet will be upstairs at the Mirza Shrine Temple. The classes of 1942, 1967, and 1992 will be honored. The registration/social hour begins at 5 p.m. with the banquet starting at 7 p.m.


Pittsburg American Legion Bingo

The Pittsburg American Legion will host bingo every Friday at the legion home. Doors open at 5 p.m. Early bird games are at 6:20 p.m. and regular bingo is at 6:30 p.m.

Kav Fest

Kav Fest, celebrating the life of Maj. Brian Kavanagh with food, music and friends takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Frisco Event Center. Admission is $15 per person, $25 per couple and is free to service members and the Colgan class of 1997. All proceeds support veterans and caregivers affected by PTSD.


Arma Homecoming Dinner

The Homecoming Dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the basement of the Arma United Methodist Church. The menu includes Chicken Mary’s chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans, slaw, dessert and drink. Adult admission is $6, $3 for children three to 12. Children under three are free.


Cajun Fest IV

Cajun Fest kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford County Fairgrounds. A $25 ticket buys a meal of jambalaya — prepared by an authentic Louisiana chef — as well as Mardi Gras wings, crawfish and more. The night will also include music from the Shane Duling Band and headliner Waylon Thibodeaux, rocking Louisiana fiddler. All profit benefits a USD 248 Education Foundation Scholarship fund.
