PITTSBURG — A special quilt will go up for raffle at this year’s Pittsburg High School Pink Out Raffle during League Volleyball Night on Tuesday.
The quilt is made out of “Pink Out” shirts which were from previous years’ pink out league nights.
“Last year we were going through stuff and I noticed we had an excess of shirts and I thought that it would be neat to make into a quilt,” Pink Out Coordinator and volleyball parent Brenda Linahan said.
Linahan took the shirts to a quilt maker and helped organize the shirts into a bright and colorful quilt of purple, white, and of course, pink.
The community can enter to win the quilt and many other items — including a prom dress certificate from Loree’s, a one month membership from Pinamonti Wellness Center and gift certificates from Attractions Hair Salon and Piece of Cake Nutrition, a quilt bag from Amy Cussimanio and basketball bag from Diva and Dolls, two PHS shirts from First Edition, two PHS parent passes and a signed team volleyball will all be up for raffle.
All of the proceeds will go to Angels Among Us which has supported cancer patients for over 17 years.
“I’m so proud of them for taking the effort to do this … it means a lot,” Angels Among Us Founder Diana Polston said. “I always enjoy going to the game — you can see that they are so proud to help raise money to help someone.”
For the past several years, Pittsburg High School Volleyball has put on the raffle to raise awareness for breast cancer and help an organization which helps patients with cancer.
The Mercy Mobile Mammography Van will be at PHS during the game and will be available for tours, according to Meadowlark Physical Education Teacher and PHS Head Volleyball Coach Megan Mantooth.
She said volleyball students will have the opportunity to learn about mammograms and breast cancer from the van before the game.
