FRONTENAC — A photograph of a rental house flyer with racially discriminatory language began making the rounds on Facebook Friday, before it was discovered to be a fake.

The flyer was left in the door of a local business and advertised for a rental house in Frontenac. The ad said the house was two bedrooms, two bathrooms and also listed requirements “Whites only, No pets.”

The flyer included the address and phone number of Mike Bulot, a landlord in Frontenac.

The owner of the local business shared a photo of the flyer on their Facebook page.

Bulot said he had nothing to do with the flyer, and had in fact been out of town for eight days. He said he contacted law enforcement and planned to get to the bottom of it.

“I’m sure there is an answer to this, we’re going to try to figure that out,” Bulot said. “I’ve talked to the law and we’ll see what we can find out about who did this to me.”

Only one copy of the flyer was found. It does not appear to have been posted anywhere else. Frontenac Director of Public Safety John Zafuta said the Frontenac Police Department has no reason to believe Bulot created the flyer.

“Upon examination, officers quickly determined that the posting was fake and that the landlord made no such statements,” Zafuta said.

FPD was alerted to the flyer on Facebook, and said it is not aware of its origin at this time.

“The Frontenac Police Department assures the public that there is no tolerance for racially biased-language or behavior and would handle such complaints, if valid, very swiftly,” Zafuta said.

The original photo was removed from Facebook Friday.
