PITTSBURG — A Pittsburg resident was taken to the hospital, Saturday, after being shot in the hand.
According to a release from the Pittsburg Police Department, at about 8:34 a.m., Saturday, officers responded to the 700 block of W. Forest for a report of someone suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries.
According to the release, area residences were evacuated but were shortly able to return to their homes. Two individuals were taken into custody at the scene.
Zachary Alan Ludden, 22, of 718 W. Forest, was arrested and booked into the Crawford County Jail on charges of aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm, felony criminal damage and possession of a firearm under the influence. He was booked into the Crawford County Jail and is currently being held without bond. The second subject initially taken into custody was questioned and released.
Two search warrants were conducted as part of the investigation into this shooting incident — one at 716 W. Forest and one at 718 W. Forest. The weapon believed to be used in this incident was recovered in the suspect's home. Investigators allege Ludden fired numerous shots into the residence at 716 W. Forest from outside the home.
The suspect and the 21 year old male victim are believed to be acquaintances.
Law enforcement officers from the Crawford County Sheriff's Department and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the initial response to the shooting incident.
