PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce has announced its selections for the 2018 Women of Distinction.

For the last 12 years, the chamber has honored local women through its Women of Distinction calendar. The calendar showcases 12 local women, and their work in the community.

Including the 2018 selections, the chamber has recognized 144 local women and received many more nominations.

“It’s really important to highlight these women that are giving back to the community every day,” Chamber Special Events Director Dani Gosch said. “They are often working behind the scenes, so we want to give them a little bit of the limelight.”

Women of Distinction honorees for 2018 include Sara Beezley of Beezley Law Firm, Rebecca Brubaker of Safehouse Crisis Center, Shannon Brutchin of Security 1st Title, Suzy Collins of Custom Awards, LLC, Lynette Downing of Crawford County Mental Health, Bonnie Houk of Southeast Kansas Education Service Center, Brandee Johnson of Limelight Marketing, Megan Johnson of Girard High School, Linda Knoll of SEK Interlocal and Pittsburg Community Schools, Becky May of Pittsburg State University, Julie Reams of United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas and Jann Richard of Via Christi Hospital.

The honorees are selected from community nominations. Nominees who are not selected roll over to the next year, and honorees cannot be selected twice.

“It’s a very difficult choice,” Gosch said. “We get a lot of nominations, and they’re all very deserving.”

The 2018 honorees will be recognized during the chamber’s Women in Business Breakfast Friday at the Frisco Event Center. Calendars will be available at the chamber office.
