PITTSBURG — Broadway Lumber has nearly completed an upgrade at its campus on S. Broadway.
The business began tearing down one of its buildings for replacement about three months ago, and once a few final touches are made construction will be complete.
Operations Manager Byron Boldrini said the project was more an upgrade than an expansion.
“Really we just took down an old building and put up a new one,” he said. “We needed to upgrade and add storage for certain items.”
In place of the old building, Broadway Lumber has erected a new, large metal building. Boldrini said the roof and metal sides have been completed, but a few finishing touches are needed.
“It still needs the overhead door installed and a few other small things,” he said. “But we’re really close.”
The new building also has a perk for employees. Boldrini said it includes what he called a “hangout room” for employees to take breaks. Before, employees were often subject to the elements during breaks, but Boldrini said the hangout room will be enclosed and insulated to increase comfort.
“We built the hangout room for the guys to have a place to go in inclement weather,” he said. “They need a place to take a break and they can’t do it outside.”
Broadway Lumber has operated in Pittsburg since 1952, making 2017 its 65th year.
