PITTSBURG —  A family home was a substantial loss, but thanks to firefighters two tots’ presents were saved, along with other precious family belongings.

The Pittsburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at approximately 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve located at 919 S. Olive Street.

The home was occupied by a family with two children, but everyone evacuated before the firefighters arrived, and there were no injuries.

According to PFD, the firefighters tried retrieve as much property as they could for the family.   

The structure was a heavily damaged and the cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation, according to PFD.

Along with some of the children’s clothing the firefighters retrieved the presents under the tree.

“Without asking they got the kid’s presents from under the tree,” Brendan Maxwell said.

They also retrieved one of the occupant’s parent’s wedding china.

“They carefully made sure they got everything,” Maxwell said.

Phillips said she was grateful for the help from the community since the fire.

“We are very grateful for the support we have been getting,” Michaela Phillips said.
