1. Super Bowl Chili Feed
The SEK Humane Society is hosting a Super Bowl Sunday Chili Feed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Auditorium. The humane society has hosted the event for 42 years and uses the funds to support shelter animals. A $7 ticket includes chili, dessert and a drink. The event will also include a country store with various items for purchase. Pianist Jim Wilson and vocalist Jack Lemon will provide entertainment. Donations for the country store can be brought to Memorial Auditorium Saturday or Sunday between 9 and 11 a.m.
2. Ed and Marilyn Jackson Benefit Concert
Ed and Marilyn Jackson lost everything in a house fire late last year, but area headbangers are coming together to help them this weekend. A benefit concert with guitar giveaways and more will be hosted at T.J. Leland’s Saturday. A $5 cover per person will benefit the family, and attendees can see performances from six area Heavy Metal bands, including In’ere, Death by Zombie and Soheil Al Fard, all of Pittsburg. Music begins at 7 p.m.
3. PSU Ponytail Drive
Pittsburg State University Kansas Association of Nursing students are hosting a ponytail drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at McPherson Hall at the university. Donations will be made to the American Cancer Society. Hair must be eight inches long, it may not be dyed and must have less than 5 percent gray hair.
4. An Evening with Travis Tritt
Country music veteran Travis Tritt will perform an intimate, acoustic show at Memorial Auditorium Friday. The spotlight will be on Tritt and his guitar, with a focus on his strong voice and playing. The evening will include personal stories and insights into his music. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 or $55.
5. Track and Field Championships at PSU
Pittsburg State University’s Robert W. Plaster Center will host the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships Friday and Saturday. Track and Field athletes will compete over the two days.
6. John Mueller’s Winter Dance Party
Kansas Crossing Casino will host John Mueller’s Winter Dance Party Saturday at its event venue, The Corral. John Mueller is the ultimate recreation of the last tour of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. Shows take place at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday.
