PITTSBURG — A Pittsburg man arrested last week on child sex charges has had his bail set at $1 million following a first appearance in Crawford County District Court Tuesday.

Larry J. Brown, 32, of Pittsburg, appeared by video before District Court Judge Lori Bolton-Fleming Tuesday, where he was informed he had been formally charged with two counts of rape of a child under the age of 14, and two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child under the age of 14.

Assistant County Attorney John Gutierrez asked for $300,000 bond with bond supervision and that Brown be ordered to have no contact with any of the State’s witnesses or the alleged victims.

Noting the seriousness of the charges, Bolton-Fleming set bail at $1 million.

“I do feel you are a risk to these children,” she said, as she imposed the bond.

Brown was arrested late last week after a report was filed with the Pittsburg Police Department that he had allegedly repeatedly sexualy abused a 10 year old and 11 year old in their home.

Brown was arrested May 24 without incident.

Both rape and the aggravated indecent liberties charges are “off grid” felonies with a potential sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.

He is next due in court 9 a.m. June 28, in Girard.
