GIRARD — The Girard Board of Education met in special session Wednesday morning to discuss the approval of an artificial turf project for the Trojan’s football field.

According to Girard Superintendent of Schools Blaise Bauer, the board had previously requested sealed bids for the turf, with a May 25 deadline. The Wednesday meeting was a chance for the board to review the bids, and decide if it wanted to continue with the project.

The decision to move forward was unanimous.

“The board reviewed the bids, and chose Kansas Turf Company,” said Bauer. “They were the low bidder at $567,000.”

Bauer projects a chunk of the funds required to install the turf will come from individual and business donations.

“We have approximately $325,000 in committed donations.” he said

Bauer said the timing of the project in relation to the coming school year required the meeting be held outside of the normal schedule.

“We have an August 15th completion date. So we needed to decide and go forward if we wanted it ready for the new school year.” Bauer said.
