PITTSBURG — The City of Pittsburg welcomed a new team member recently.

Quentin Holmes was hired by the city to fill the position of community development and housing direction.

Holmes said he is excited about the current development of downtown and other projects his predecessor, Becky Gray, was part of and the rest of the team built by Pittsburg City Manager Daron Hall.

“The progress of the community and the product of the team Daron Hall put together is very exciting to me, it’s a big part of it and why I took the opportunity.”

May has moved away to be near her family, she however hasn’t left community development and housing field because she continues to serve her community in Colorado through a similar job.

“She has certainly made a name for herself in Pittsburg through her work and we certainly will miss her in Pittsburg, but Quentin is a great addition to the team and is already doing great things with the housing and development program,” Public Information Director Sarah Runyon said. “We’re glad to have him on board.”

In addition, Holmes is “a proven leader and is well-known in our community,” Hall said. “His ideas, work ethic and positive attitude will serve Pittsburg well.”

As director, Holmes is responsible for “networking and building positive relationships with business leaders, educational alliances, property owners, investors, regulatory and governmental agencies, non-profits and citizens to promote the future growth of Pittsburg,” a  release from the City of Pittsburg said.
“I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead our city’s efforts in housing and community development,” Holmes said in the release. “I love this community and the direction we are headed.

“The future of Pittsburg is bright. Luckily, I get to be on the front line.”
Holmes came to Pittsburg from Basehor, Kansas to go to school at Pittsburg State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

He was formerly director of development at PSU College of Technology and according to a release, he has over 10 years of experience working in the public and private business sectors.

Holmes and his wife Monica also own The Cheer Pitt, which they started in college after being asked and seeing the need. The Cheer Pitt is a competitive cheerleading and tumbling gym.

The couple were both in PSU cheerleading and the couple have three children.
