PITTSBURG — Around town, volunteers will clean, organize and more for nonprofit organizations on Friday for United Way’s Day of Action.

The Day of Action is an annual event hosted by United Way to bring volunteers to nonprofit agencies in need of “anything that needs to be done,” United Way Director of Development Julie Reams said.

“Our mission is to help everyone in the community,” she said.

For example, this year’s volunteers will assist the Family Resource Center with storage items and the same for the Pittsburg Family YMCA, which Reams said will be a kick start to the facility’s renovation plans. Schlanger Park’s trail will also receive a new coat of paint.

“We all collaborate together to get what they [the organizations] need to get done,” Reams said.

Volunteers from local businesses helped six different agencies last year and Reams expects this year to be just as great, she said.

“We have more volunteers this year and I think that’s a great sign,” she said. “The community came through again.”

Although it is a little too late for individuals, organizations and businesses can sign up to either volunteer or receive assistance, people may contact Reams at 620-231-8140 to help throughout the year.
