PITTSBURG — To celebrate the new Block22 housing the Colonial Fox Theater Foundation, in partnership with PSU, City of Pittsburg and Westar Energy are hosting a “Back to Broadway Celebration.

The entire community — along with all of the students moving into the Block22 apartments — are invited.

“This is especially exciting because this is very first time PSU will have a major presence in downtown district,” CFTF Executive Director Vonnie Corsini said.

The street fair will begin at 3 p.m. and will end at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 on Broadway. Local business, restaurants, churches and food trucks will make a presence at the event. People interested in having a booth may contact the foundation through its website at www.colonialfox.org.

There will also be live music at 6:30 p.m. at the Colonial Fox Theater, which will feature The Diana Louise Quartet and Jacob Tovar & the Saddle Tramps. Ticket information can be found on the foundation’s website.

From 3 to 8 p.m. there will be a “beer garden” next to the theater.

On Aug. 18 the students will move into the Block22 apartments.

Deputy City Manager Jay Byers said the commercial spaces will not be complete but the students will be able to move in on time. The commercial spaces are planned to be complete in October.

“It really is a living learning environment,” he said about the historical elements which will be kept and the reminders of successful alumni which will be represented in the large hallways.
