PITTSBURG — The beginning of the school year brings changes for many schools, and Pittsburg State University is no different. On Monday PSU announced a new director of Admissions, Scott Donaldson.

Hailing from Riverton, Donaldson said that he thinks his local knowledge is what set him apart for the position.

“First and foremost I have a residents understanding of this area,” Donaldson said. “I went to a small high school, I understand that mentality and what those graduating students are looking for in a university.”

He said that he thinks his experience will help boost PSU’s enrollment and transfer numbers. He also has recent first hand knowledge of a parent getting their child ready for college.

“My daughter is 19, and becomes a Gorilla this fall,” Donaldson said. “I think that perspective allows me to relate better with parents who are trusting PSU to educate their children.”

Donaldson who has 8 years of experience in admissions from a prior university, has also worked in sales, which he says only benefits him at PSU.

“This is a wonderful university, and I’m proud to be here,” he said. “I understand that part of my job is to be the best salesperson on campus, and I’m going to do my best to let everyone know how amazing PSU is.”

Donaldson said that although his career has taken many twists and turns he knew he had be in education when years ago he substituted for a 1st grade class.

At the end of the day a little girl pulled on his sleeve and handed him a drawing of him teaching the class.

“The drawing said, we love you, and it melted my heart.” Donaldson said. “I knew right then I had to be in education.”
