PITTSBURG — The Door Christian Fellowship Church is welcoming the community to its Back to School Block Party.
The event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday in front of the church. There will be a bounce house, face painting, live music and free barbecue. The church is located at 130 E. 3rd St. in Pittsburg.
“It’s for everyone in the community and to give back and it’s something fun for parents and kids,” The Door Pastor Ryan Burtch said.
The church had its grand opening in April and is a “non-denominational Christian ministry.”
“Our mission is to bring hope to people who don’t have a lot of hope,” Burtch said.
Often, Burtch said, people come in with addictions they are battling. Burtch said it is the church’s mission to be a place where people “can experience the love of Jesus regardless of their background.”
The church also serves as a homeless shelter during severe inclement weather. Burtch said he welcomes dedicated volunteers to contact the church to assist with the shelter.
