PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg Boys’ Soccer team continued its great 2018 campaign with a 3-2 win over Kansas City Fl- Schlagle in Tuesday’s Class 5A Regional Three opening round.
Blake Foster rebounded a save and safely slotted the ball into the back of the net to give Pittsburg a 1-0 lead at the 20 minute mark.
After having his first converted penalty overturned because of a teammate standing inside of the box, Emerson Barrios scored on his second penalty attempt to give the Purple Dragons a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Schlagle responded with a goal early in the second half, but Pittsburg ultimately outlasted the Stallions rally.
“We got good pressure to the ball throughout,” said Pittsburg Head Coach Kyle Bockover. “We were moving the ball in-and-out of space well and we did a great job of getting into dangerous areas. I told the team at halftime that they were going to come out firing. As a coach you’re always a little leary of a 2-0 halftime lead.”
“But the guys were resilient and ultimately played a good second half. We play a great team on Thursday in St. Thomas Aquinas, so we will have to clean up our mental lapses and be more clinical with our passes.” added coach Bockover.
