PITTSBURG — There’s nothing like a nice, comfy pair of jeans.
A new men’s mercantile shop opened in Pittsburg over the weekend.
The store was opened by Kim and Davey Froman, who met working in retail at the Buckle. Combined the couple has 23 years of experience in retail.
Miners and Monroe is named after the history of blue jeans — which includes southeast Kansas’ coal mining history — and the late Marilyn Monroe, who made them fashionable.
Kim Froman was originally from Pittsburg and studied fashion and marketing at Pittsburg State University. Davey Froman, originally from Miami, Oklahoma, studied accounting and finance at Missouri State.
The family moved away but came back to Pittsburg to open Miners and Monroe.
“We moved back in July with the excitement going on at Block22,” Kim Froman said. “It has been a dream of ours for a long time.”
They also have a little boy, Tripp.
“We wanted to get back closer to family and burry our roots in Pittsburg,” Kim Froman said.
Davey Froman agreed.
“I wanted to do something I enjoy, while also supporting my family and create an environment people wanted to be at, to socialize and hang out,” Froman said.
The couple are selling a variety of brands, many of which “give back,” such as TOMS, Kim said. They are also selling furniture made by another small business Wilken & Co.
The Fromans said they appreciate the support from their family, friends, community and the City of Pittsburg.
“Everyone has been very welcoming,” Kim Froman said.
The store is located at 214 S. Broadway in Pittsburg. They are currently under holiday hours which can be found on their Facebook page.
