PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University assistant basketball coach Jon Gilliam has been placed on administrative leave while under investigation by the school for allegedly calling a member of the University of Central Missouri coaching staff a racial slur during a basketball game earlier this year.
The slur allegedly occurred during a Jan. 12 tilt between the two schools.
In post-game footage of the game from the MIAA website, Gilliam can be seen approaching UCM Associate Head Coach Nate Johnson as he is having a conversation with another member of the Pitt State coaching staff after the game.
Audio of what was being said between the two can not be heard over the video feed.
Pitt State Athletics released a statement acknowledging the allegations, and confirmed that a investigation is taking place:
“The university takes these matters seriously and is conducting an internal investigation. Pittsburg State University condemns any behavior that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work or educational environment.”
