PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State Baseball completed a weekend sweep of Colorado State University-Pueblo with its 14-7 win on Sunday at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas defeated CSU-P 6-3 and 2-1 in a double header on Saturday.

Achtermann anchors 14-7 rout

Senior Alex Achtermann belted two grand slams against CSU-P on Sunday to pace an explosive Pitt State offense that scored 22 runs over the weekend.

The Thunder Wolves capitalized on some sloppy play early from the Gorillas, scoring four runs that were assisted by three Pittsburg State errors in the top of the third frame.

Pittsburg took the lead in their half of the third, sparked by Achtermann’s first bomb over the right field wall with the bases loaded.

CSU-P would tie the score at five in the next inning, but Actermann’s second grand slam in the bottom of the fourth was the catalyst for a six-run inning that helped put the scoreline out of reach.

The Thunder Wolves would score two runs in the next two innings, with Pittsburg State notching two runs in the seventh inning.

Pittsburg State’s Levi McLaughlin went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Dalton Weaver was credited with the win.
