PITTSBURG — The St. Mary's-Colgan boys' varsity team defeated Oswego 56-29 on Monday in the opening round of the Class 2A Sub-State tournament. Matthew Lomshek led the Panthers with 18 points, eight points coming in the first half.

"We honestly didn't start off the game with enough energy. Coach told us to be aggressive, and with Aaron(Higginbotham) in foul trouble we all had to be more aggressive on the offensive end." said Lomshek

"Going out there and getting a solid win is vital in the first game in Sub-State." said Colgan Head Coach Wayne Cichon. "Its only going to get tougher from here, so its great to be able to gain some momentum early."

The Panthers started out slow in the first quarter, but took a 26-15 lead at halftime.

Colgan stretched the lead in the third quarter. Lomshek's baby hook from inside the painted area pushed the lead to 33-15 in the second quarter. Dalton VanBecelaere knocked down a three after a Oswego turnover to continue to push the lead out of reach.
