PITTSBURG — From paint and music, poetry and galleries, Pittsburg ArtWalk will bring artists and the community together from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in Downtown Pittsburg.

Just like the last ArtWalk, the committee will host a passport game during the event to help open up conversation with the artists.
“The point is to get people engaged with the artists that attend our artwalk,” ArtWalk Committee Member Jennifer DeLee said.

To play, people stop by different booths and have their passport stamped. They then come back to the ArtWalk booth where they can enter into a raffle. The ArtWalk committee booth will be located across from Jock’s Nitch.

Along with the canvas painting demonstrations, live music and other interactive art displays, a variety of organizations will provide art activities which the community are welcomed to try, DeLee said.

The SEK Humane Society will be in attendance, along with several of its puppies. They will allow “puppy rentals” which means people can walk dogs during the ArtWalk.

Lakeside Elementary students will host an auction for the dog houses they built to benefit the Humane Society and Girard School students will sell their artwork of dogs and cats available for adoption at the Humane Society during the event.

People can take a walk down to Europe Park to listen to more live music. They can also travel to TJ Lelands where Pittsburg State University poetry writers will read poetry for the audience.

Their passport can also be taken to Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium where they can view Bob Laushman’s art display, eat appetizers, get a few cold ones from the cash bar and learn about the area’s murals.

People can travel just barely off-site to Sweet Designs where they can get henna tattoos and have their passport stamped.

Back on site, area residents can step into ArtForms Gallery. They can also stop by the Fox Theatre for a tour. Tours at the theatre will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and will cost $3 for self guided tour. The tour fee helps cover expenses for the theatre and its restoration. People will be stationed to answer questions about the theatre.

People who can’t make it to the ArtWalk on Friday have another opportunity August 16. DeLee said artists are welcome to sign up early and can contact the committee at pittsburgartwalk@gmail.com
