GIRARD — The Girard High School basketball teams earned a pair of wins over Anderson County on Tuesday, with the Lady Trojans earning a 49-40 victory in game one and the boys’ team taking a 61-33 win in game two.

It wasn’t pretty, but the Lady Trojans got the job done, winning by nine in the first game of the night.

“Tonight was a street fight between two teams that weren’t executing very well, but both gave maximum effort,” GHS head coach Brad Herlocker said. “We started out cold and missed a ton of high-percentage shots for the first and half of the second quarter. We picked up a little at the end of the second and made a run which was sparked by our defense. In the third, they came back and retook the lead, but we stepped up our defensive pressure and pulled ahead. It wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was a win.”

Sydnee Crain was the leading scorer with 22 points in the win.

The Girard boys’ team scored early and often in the second game of the night to earn the 61-33 win to complete the sweep.

“Our guys did some nice things tonight,” GHS head coach Rod Westcott said. “We competed hard and we were able to put up four good quarters together.”

Caleb Muia led the way for Girard with 16 points in the win.
