PITTSBURG — An intense night of SEK basektball saw Pittsburg High School earn two wins over Parsons on Tuesday, as the girls won 61-49 followed by an 89-56 win by the boys.

After falling behind in the early going, the Purple Dragons rallied to take the lead at the end of the first quarter en route to the win.

“We have a young team that faltered earlier in the season in the second half of games,” PHS head coach Kris Crotts said. “The girls have grown mentally resilient and have learned to look at each quarter individually.”

The Purple Dragons hit the ground running with an 8-0 run to the begin the first quarter and never looked back in the 89-56 win.

Gavyn Elkamil and Marque English had a big hand in the win, scoring 32 and 28 points apiece.

“We have a very mature group of guys,” PHS head coach Kiley Roelfs stated. “We didn’t have to say much to them. They beat us over there and our guys came out tonight and did exactly what they needed to do in order to get the win. When you have two guys playing like that, there isn’t much you need to do, besides let them go.”
