GIRARD — The Frontenac Raiders boys’ baseball team used good pitching and solid run support to top Girard 5-1, and 6-0 in Monday’s doubleheader.

Game one Frontenac 5, Girard 1

Frontenac opened game one with a run, but Girard would tie the game in the fourth courtesy of a Ethan Goff RBI single. The Raiders would regain the lead in the fifth with three runs before tacking on a insurance run in the seventh.

Jake Wilbert went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs for the Raiders. Peyton Brown had two RBIs as well. Kade Chastain, Cooper Cleland, Broc Ginavan and Kooper Loy had one hit each.

Ethan Jahay paced the Girard offense with two hits.

Game two Frontenac 6, Girard 0

In game two Frontenac scored four runs in the first frame and two in the fifth.

Chastain begin the scoring after crossing the plate on a error, and Cal Strand put the Raiders up 2-0 with a RBI single. Jake Lee doubled home Brown before being brought home himself by a Ginavan double to put the Raiders up 4-0.

Lee’s two-run RBI double in the fifth was enough to insure victory.

Strand and Lee led the Raiders in hits with two.

Jahay, Goff, Connor Dillon and Gage Chiartano added in a hit each for the Trojans.

Trojans take two from Raiders in doubleheader

The Girard girls’ softball team scored in double digits in both of their games against Frontenac, leading them to a 14-2 victory in game one and a 12-11 win in the nightcap.

Game one Girard 14, Frontenac 2

Girard would open the game with three runs in the first frame before tacking on seven in the fourth to build a 11-1 lead.

Giard would score three runs in the sixth to pad their lead.

The Raider’s Madison Davis went 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple.

Game two Girard 12, Frontenac 11

The Trojans scored five runs in the first frame to go up 5-2, before tacking on two more runs in the fifth to go up by four.

Frontenac would storm back in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs to take a 10-7 lead. The Trojans would bounce back with two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Karma Fields finished with one hit and three runs scored for the Raiders. Taylor Peterson had two hits, including a triple and a double, with two RBIs and two runs scored.
