PITTSBURG — Pittsburg baseball put on a dominant performance in Tuesday’s double header against Field Kindley, earning 8-0 and 10-0 shutout victories.

Game one Pittsburg 8, Field Kindley 0

The Dragon bats were consistent throughout, scoring in every inning but the sixth. Trenton Austin’s RBI single in the first inning opened the Pittsburg scoring. In the second frame Jhalani Long singled home Dylan White before scoring on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 3-0.

Austin would score in the third on a Ben Boekhout groundout to add to the lead.

Pittsburg tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning courtesy of RBIs from White and Jerek Butcher to put Pittsburg up 6-0

Dalton Gromer and Tye Cicero scored on errors in the fifth inning.

Austin went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. Butcher and Long had two hits each.

Brett Weimers got the win on the mound after pitching sixth scoreless innings and striking out seven.

Game two Pittsburg 10, Field Kindley 0

Pittsburg brought home four runs in the opening frame of the nightcap and five runs in inning two to build a 9-0 going into the third.

Gromer’s two-run RBI double in the first inning put the Dragons up 2-0, and Austin would score on a Caden Bressler groundout to continue the momentum. Long would single home Ethan Light to extend the score to 4-0.

In the second Bressler earned a bases-loaded walk that allowed Butcher to score. In the next at-bat Light would score on a wild pitch and Weimers sacrifice fly to center would bring home Cicero to make the score line 7-0.

Bressler would add to the lead after scoring on a wild pitch, and a RBI double from Long helped stretch the lead to 9-0.

Alex Kafka’s run on a Chase Curtis sacrifice fly in the fifth clinched the win for the Dragons.

Matt Cicero earned the win after pitching five scoreless innings.

Softball complete sweep

Pittsburg softball overwhelmed Field Kindley in their doubleheader, winning 10-0 and 17-7 on Tuesday at Pittsburg High School.

Game one Pittsburg 10, Field Kindley 0

The Purple Dragons would do most of their damage in the third and fourth frames, scoring three runs in the third before tacking on five in the fourth.

After building a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth, Pittsburg’s Myla Turner hit a RBI triple to left to spark their fourth inning explosion.

Mallory McThompson, Sydney Linahan, Kaydn Matlock and Madden Petty batted in a RBI each in the inning to build the Pittsburg advantage.

Turner, Matlock and Linahan each went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Game two Pittsburg 17, Field Kindley 7

Field Kindley held the lead briefly after scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, but the Purple Dragons responded with ten runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.

Shannon O’Hara hit a two-run RBI double to start the Pittsburg scoring. Linahan would score on a wild pitch, and Sophia Pinamonti earned a bases loaded walk to tie the game at 4-4. Isabella Pinamonti’s groundout allowed Petty to score and Turner would hit another triple, this time bringing home two runners, to put the Purple Dragons up 7-4.

McThompson’s RBI single and Matlock’s RBI double would extend the lead to 10-4 after one inning.

The Purple Dragons went on to score seven runs the rest of the way to insure the victory.

Turner paced the Pittsburg offense at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored. O’Hara had two hits and three RBIs.
