COLUMBUS — The Pittsburg Purple Dragon softball team surged to a 13-3 win against the Columbus Titans on Tuesday.

The Purple Dragons opened the game with six runs in the first inning and followed with seven runs in the second.

“We took advantage of mistakes that they made early, which led to us driving in runs on a couple big hits.” said Purple Dragon coach Bobby Stackhouse. “After the second inning I feel like we gave some at-bats away, so we have to do a better job of keeping a high level of play throughout the game. We did an excellent job in the field, and Madden Petty did a great job throwing strikes and keeping her walks down.”

Pittsburg climbed to a 2-0 lead by way of a Shannon O’Hara two-run RBI single. O’Hara and Kaydn Matlock would extend the lead after scoring on errors by the Titans infield.

After Zoe Pinamonti reached base on a called third strike that went past the catcher, Addy Campbell would cross home plate on a passed ball to make the score 5-0. Isabella Pinamonti’s single to right field brought home Zoe Pinamonti to put the Purple Dragons up by six runs.

Petty would retire three straight batters in the bottom of the frame, striking out the last two.

The second frame started similar to the first for the Purple Dragons, with Pittsburg getting two quick outs before responding with a huge run.

Campbell sparked the scoring in the inning with an RBI single down second base, bringing home Sydney Linahan. Zoe Pinamonti’s two-run RBI double extended the Pittsburg lead to 9-0.

Isabella Pinamonti would bring home Zoe Pinamonti once again to build on the lead.

After Linahan’s two-run RBI double and Matlock’s RBI single, Pittsburg looked poised to end the game in three innings.

However, the Titans pitching staff shutout the Purple Dragons the rest of the way, and scored three runs in the fourth. The game was called after Columbus failed to bring home a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Linahan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Isabella Pinamonti also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. O’Hara and Zoe Pinamonti chipped in two RBIs each, and leadoff batter Myla Turner had one hit and two walks.

Petty pitched all five innings, allowing seven hits with six strikeouts.
