GREAT BEND — St. Mary’s-Colgan rallied back from a 10-2 deficit, including five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but Nate Heeke’s RBI single delivered Spearville the 13-12 win and the Boys’ Baseball 2-1A State Championship.

Spearville dominated the Panthers early, culminating in a ten-run second inning. Colgan begin chipping at the lead in the third inning, led by Cade Simmons’ shot over the left field wall to cut the scoreline to 12-4.

Andrew Lomshek drove in Doug Brown later in the frame to bring the Panthers within 12-5.

St. Mary’s-Colgan added two runs in the middle innings before their seventh inning rally.

Lomshek and Luke Orender opened the seventh with consecutive singles, leading to a Gianni Piccini RBI single to make the score 12-8. Bryce Hutchins responded by driving in Orender on a sacrifice fly, and Simmons earned a bases loaded walk to continue the comeback.

Piccini scored on a passed ball later in the frame and Lomshek drew another bases loaded walk to tie the score.

Alex Fisher belted a triple to begin the bottom of the seventh, which led to Heeke’s championship winning single.
