GREAT BEND — The St. Mary’s-Colgan Boys’ Baseball team continued their cinderella run in the 2-1A State Tournament, defeating Ell-Saline 9-1 Friday morning.

The win sends the Panthers to this afternoon's state championship game at 5:45 p.m.

Colgan (8-15), whose prior longest win streak of the season was a double header sweep against Columbus, has now won their last four games by a combined score of 40-8.

Parker Wydick pitched a complete game, allowing only two runs and two hits with five strikeouts.

The Panthers got out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. Derek VanBecelaere drove in Bryce Hutchins, who led-off the game with a double to center field, to put Colgan on the board.

VanBecelaere advanced to third on a passed ball, leading to Cade Simmons driving him in on a sacrifice fly to center field.

After a three-and-out second inning, Hutchins’ hard hit single to center field scored Gianni Piccini to give Colgan a 3-0 advantage.

Janko Kalan continued the momentum for Colgan in the fourth inning. Kalan scored on a passed ball to spark a three-run frame.

The Panthers added three insurance runs in the seventh.
