COLUMBUS — Cade Simmons and the St. Mary’s-Colgan Panthers rumbled past the Columbus Titans 40-6 on Friday night in their season opener.
Simmons rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns. Cal Marquardt also had a fantastic game to open the year, with 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Matthew Lomshek got the scoring started for the Panthers in the first quarter, plunging into the endzone from one-yard out.
Simmons broke his first big play of the season in the quarter, rushing for a 50-yard score. Marquardt got into the action as well, scoring on a 39-yard touchdown pass.
The Panthers rushed for 314 yards in the game. Kash Marietta ran for 67 yards on a team-high 13 carries.
Simmons finished with five total touchdowns on the game, going 5-7 on his passes for 118 yards and two scores. Opposing quarterback Jared Graham went 10-14 for 93 yards with a touchdown and a interception.
Luke Orender led the way on defense with six tackles and a sack.
