EMPORIA - The Pittsburg State University Football team captured their second win of the season on Thursday night, topping Emporia State 34-13 at Welch Stadium.
The Gorillas ran for 221 rushing yards as a team against the Hornets. Tyler Adkins paced the rushing attack with 92 yards on 19 carries.
Pitt State quarterback John Roderique completed 11 of 22 of his passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
Lorenzo West was Roderique’s top target, catching five passes for 120 yards.
Emporia State halfback Landon Nault ran for 152 yards in the first half, leading the Hornets to a 13-10 lead at halftime.
Pitt State bounced back in the second half. The Gorilla’s scored 24 points in the second half, and held Nault to 15 yards in the final two quarters.
Roderique’s touchdown pass to Jackson Krull gave Pitt State a 20-13 lead early in the fourth quarter.
After Gorilla cornerback KiAnte Hardin picked off a Braxton Marstall pass, Roderique quickly found wideout Brenner Clemons on a 56-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 27-13.
Roderique rushed for a seven-yard score late in the game to seal the win for the Gorillas.
