Posted

Larry Johnson was born on April 11, 1960, and passed on May 13, 2023. Larry came from Seattle, Washington, and retired in Mulberry, Kansas, in 2020.

His life included many life-changing activities, such as being a crab fisherman, professional contractor, casino god, chef, and traveler. He was an engineer/deck boss/chef for various crab boats fishing the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean.Throughout the crab fishing fleet, he was known for making incredible meals. He took pride in preparing meals for the crew and serving them with a smile.

He leaves behind his son Lonnie Johnson and his ex-wife, Mary Johnson, with whom he maintained a close relationship.

Larry was the youngest sibling with two sisters. Nancy Clyne married to Reverend Terry Clyne, and Sandie Doff-Sotta,  married to Chris Doff-Sotta. His parents, Lee and Beatrice Johnson, preceded him in death.

Larry was an elected Councilmember and served two years for the city of Mulberry, Kansas before he passed. Larry possessed the art of relationships and always made friends everywhere who turned into family. He left behind many friends who would always call him family.

He was one of a kind and multi-talented. Larry played hard, just like he worked hard. But he appreciated things like decorating his dining table and house for all the holidays and birthdays. Larry loved second-hand and antique shopping. He loved to bargain with the sellers to reduce the price. Every antique and second-hand store for miles around knew Larry. His home was decorated with his finds.

Larry enjoyed entertaining and cooking for his family and friends. In Seattle and continuing the practice when he moved to Kansas, Larry would plan the menus, shop, prep, and cook sumptuous Sunday Family Dinners.

This world will not be the same without his humor and zest for life.

Instead of a traditional funeral, his friends have organized a Celebration of Life, to be held from 1 pm to 5 pm, Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the Mulberry Senior Citizens Center, 207 S Military Ave, Mulberry, Kansas, 66756.
