Posted

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Matthew Anderson, RN, a staff nurse at Ascension Living Via Christi Village in Pittsburg, was recently honored with the prestigious DAISY Award during a special ceremony.

The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that recognizes nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise, compassion and spirituality, and are recognized as role models in the nursing community.

“This award is a testament to Matt’s dedication to providing personalized care and compassionate service,” said Caitlin Strawderman, Executive Director of Ascension Living Via Christi Village in Pittsburg. “It was my distinct honor to present him with this national award.”

Anderson was nominated for the award by an anonymous coworker.

“He is an exemplary example of what a nurse is – devoted, attentive, dependable and compassionate,” wrote Matt’s co-worker in the nomination. “Matt is able to handle intense situations calmly and with ease. Without hesitation, Matt is able to take charge during stressful response situations to ensure his patient receives the best possible care while providing a sense of calm to the patient’s loved ones.

“He has an outstanding ability to bring calm to a room due to his clear devotion to providing compassionate care and support to his co-workers. On a daily basis he is attentive and compassionate to each and every resident, taking the time to make sure they are comfortable and happy. He naturally demonstrates our service commitments time and time again. He comes to work centered on his patients. He is an excellent father, co-worker, friend and human in addition to an amazing nurse.”

The DAISY Foundation was formed in January 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). The Barnes family, impressed with the compassionate nursing care their son Patrick received before his death, wanted to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere for the difference they make in the lives of patients and families.
