Charles E. (Chuck) Sirratt passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.
He was born in Stockton, Missouri, on May 2, 1937, to James and Lenora (Williams) Sirratt and was raised in the Stockton and Columbus, Kansas, areas.
Chuck was a Golden Gloves Boxing champion in Joplin in 1955. That same year, he started his military career in the U.S. Army. He was a military policeman stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, Korea, and Ft. Leavenworth. Sergeant First Class Sirratt served in Guam during his 13 years as a U.S. Army Recruiter before returning to Pittsburg to retire. He received several medals of honor during his time in the military.
Throughout his life, he wore many hats: Car salesman in California & Kansas; auto repair shop owner; employee of Dickey Clay in Pittsburg; City of Pittsburg Fireman, Policeman, and EMT; Undersheriff of Crawford County; Shelter Insurance Agent; Hunter Safety Course Instructor; Walmart Security Supervisor; Head of Security at Camptown Greyhound Park; & Chief of Police in Weir, Kansas. He was also a certified scuba diver.
He educated himself throughout these years by returning to college at Pittsburg State University and Ft. Scott Community College, Police Academy, and various other continuing education courses. He loved spending time at the lake.
Chuck married Lena Mae Bertella in 1955. Of this union, four daughters were born; Cheryl Barley (Dennis), Joplin, Pam Batley, Cherokee, Renee Pakitsos, Joplin, and Katrina Deters (Grant) of Andover, Kansas. They later divorced. He married Jody Ann Greer in 1977. Jody brought two children to this marriage, Angela Alexander of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Warren Stanford III (Richard) of Plano, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, stepchildren, nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Delores Stryker and Doris Keithley; one brother, Dale Sirratt; a grandson; and his faithful companion for 16 years, his German Shepherd, Jordan.
Full military graveside services will be Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, Kansas.
