Joseph M. Carlson, 73, of Cherokee, passed away at 12:09 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital.
He was born Jan. 26, 1949, the son of Hugh and Annie (Krafels) Carlson. He attended St. Rose Grade School in Columbus, Southeast high School in Cherokee, and Pittsburg State University, graduating with a degree in manufacturing.
He worked at McNally’s Manufacturing after graduation. He then worked on the Katy and Union Pacific Railroads from 1973 to 2009. He retired and continued to farm.
On May 6, 2006, he was united in marriage to Pat Pryor at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. She survives at the family home.
Joe knew no stranger. He would help anyone he could.
In addition to his wife, Pat, he is survived by his cousins, Jim (Lois) Carlson, Alan (Rosemary) Carlson, John (Linda) Richards, Barbara Cavender, Kathy Ebbs and Sammye (Richard) Flaharty; several nieces and nephews and many good friends and neighbors. His special Blue Heeler, Addie, will also miss him terribly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, Kansas, with Fr. Jeremy Huser as celebrant. Fr. Larry Parker and Fr. Tom Stroot will be co-celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Weir, Kansas. A parish rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends may give Masses or to the Carona Train Depot. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
