LaVera Marie Moomey, 80, of Hepler, died at 3:56 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, at her residence.
LaVera was born Dec. 10, 1941, in Argonia, Kansas, a daughter of William and Esther (Pearson) Segebartt. At age 7, she moved with her family to Hepler, where she attended the Seventh-day Adventist School. She attended Enterprise Academy in Enterprise, Kansas, before graduating from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.
LaVera married Lyle D. Moomey on Aug. 22, 1970, in Hepler. They resided in Davenport, Iowa, until retiring to Hepler in 1997. He survives of the home. LaVera worked with education throughout her lifetime in many capacities and locations.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Davenport and Hepler, a Pink Lady at the Girard Medical Center, and a precinct supervisor in the Hepler area.
She enjoyed her family, family history, children, collecting recipes, traveling, and being an avid reader.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Lyle, include her daughter, Rosanna Zeismer, and her husband, Ronald, of Menominee, Michigan; her son, Douglas Moomey, and his wife, Ludmila, of Baltimore, Maryland; her grandchildren, Braedon, Kristin and her husband, Seth, Nicholas, Katelyn, and Bethany; her sister, Juanita Eitel, and her husband, Gary, of Hepler; her brothers, John Segebartt of Hepler and Bill Segebartt and his wife, Gayle, of Hepler; her sisters-in-law Phyllis Johannsen and her husband, Leon, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Janis Taylor of Foley, Alabama, Patti Stevenson, and her husband, Vern, of Ocala, Florida, and Maren Moomey of Bettendorf, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Segebartt, and her brothers-in-law, Dick Moomey and Ken Taylor.
Funeral services will be at noon on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard, with Pastor Wayne Gayton officiating. Burial will be in the Farlington Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday.
