Patsy Lavone Proffitt

Patsy Lavone Proffitt, 89, resident of Oakview Estates, Frontenac, KS, formerly of Cherokee, KS, went to be with her Lord at 7:09 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2025, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage, Missouri.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1935, in Chicopee, Kansas, the daughter of August and Ina (Baker) Paschetti. She attended grade school and middle school in Chicopee and graduated from Crawford County High School in Cherokee.

Patsy was a car hop when she was young, where she met her future husband, Charlie. She also worked a short time at KOAM Radio, but as her family began, she became a homemaker and mother.

On May 15, 1953, she was united in marriage to Charles A. “Charlie” Proffitt in Bentonville, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2003. During her marriage, living many years in Cherokee, KS, Patsy was blessed with five brothers-in-laws and five sisters-in-laws and their spouses who were not only family but wonderful friends.  

Patsy was a member of the Monmouth Trinity Holiness Church Family. Patsy enjoyed cooking, shopping for a bargain, and spending time with family, especially attending family reunions. Patsy loved summer vacations which were often planned around visiting relatives and traveling together. Most will remember how she loved her family fiercely and her kindness in taking care of others. 

Survivors include, two sons, Terry Proffitt (Sue) of Columbus, KS and Mike Proffitt of Frontenac; five daughters, Debbie Page (Randy) of Girard, KS, Tammy Alcantar (Raymond) of Pittsburg, Regina Fields (Jon) of Carthage, MO, Lori Proffitt of Frontenac, and Missy Tener (Mick) of Manhattan, KS; thirteen grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a dear friend and caregiver, Connie Wallace. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Paul (Margaret) and August, Jr. (Loretta), and a sister, Dorothy Lovell Ratley.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the Trinity Holiness Church in Monmouth, KS with Rev. Larry Davolt officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brenner Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Monmouth Trinity Holiness Church. These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
