Thomas McLeod, known as "Tom or Tommy Jr.", 73, was born April 10, 1951, to his beloved parents Tom and Marjorie Lou (Holsinger). He grew up in Mulberry, KS and graduated high school in 1969. He later joined the National Guard.
Tom married Bernadine (Berna), and they welcomed their daughter Bernadine Abigail McLeod (Abbi) in 1985.
Tom and Berna loved to get coffee and go to garage sales or bookstores for hours. He was always making or tinkering with something for Berna as she always had something up her sleeve. They enjoyed sharing the same birthday three years apart. Tom often found solace with his best friend "Uncle Bill" Warlop on "the land" fishing, drinking Busch Lights, and shooting guns. He was an acquired taste and wasn't for everyone, but that didn’t bother him. Tom was incredibly generous and enjoyed volunteering and acts of service were his love language. Every Saturday morning Tom took Abbi to her dance classes and would drive her all over the state going to various activities and sports to cheer on her friends and classmates. He was President of the Home and School Association and in the Knights of Columbus while Abbi was growing up to support SMC and Our Lady of Lourdes. He was quick witted and had a little saying or quip for everything. He loved America and was a true patriot who honored the flag for all it represents. Tom had the voice of an angel and would sing all the time loving every genre of music. Tom worked in the coal mine, for the City of Pittsburg, KS doing Section 8, HUD, building inspection, and code enforcement and then for the cities of Parsons, KS and Girard, KS before retiring.
Tom experienced the first symptoms of dementia in 2016. Shortly after, Berna suffered from complications from multiple brain aneurysms and Abbi was their sole caregiver for many years before they required long term care.
Tom was placed on hospice for a short time for heart failure until he passed peacefully while receiving Last Rites on Nov. 12, 2024, at 11:14 a.m. Tom was cremated according to his wishes and will be buried privately at a later time.
He is preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Lou and father Tom; sister Linda Lou; brother-in-law Wayne Palmer Sr.; nephew Wayne Jr.; and brother-in- law Michael Hagerty.
He is survived by wife Berna and daughter Abbi.
In lieu of flowers, Berna and Abbi ask you to consider praying a rosary for his soul and the souls in Purgatory or performing an act of kindness- especially to a caregiver. Please also consider donating to Wreaths Across America at Mt Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS as they are short of their goal this year for wreaths for Veterans or to the local organization Vetlinks.org.
Abbi wishes to express her gratitude to all those who have taken part in the healthcare of Tom and Berna over the years.
