Third suspect in Lamar murder caught

Staff Reports

A third suspect in a Lamar, Missouri murder from last year has been arrested in Oklahoma, the Lamar Police Department announced Monday.

David W. Morris, 33, of Duenweg, Missouri, has been captured in Grove, Oklahoma, the department said in a press release. Morris was the last suspect to be apprehended in connection with the July 13, 2020 shooting death of 51-year-old Terry Harless of Lamar.

The Lamar PD announced in December that Lane Bronson, 27, of Webb City, Missouri had been formally charged with second degree homicide in the case. He was arrested as a result of an investigation coordinated with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad.

The following week, the department announced arrest warrants for Morris and Tre Ackerson, 26, of Joplin, Missouri, on second degree homicide charges as a result of the investigation. Ackerson was already in custody at the Jasper County Jail for unrelated charges when the warrant was served on Dec. 23.
