Marilyn and Merlin Colegrove recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They have one daughter, Marla Kichler, married to Jessie Kichler, three grandsons and one granddaughter.
Makenna Kirkpatrick celebrated her first birthday with a party at her home with friends and family. Her parents are Sierra and Craig Kirkpatrick, and she has an older brother, Zak.
The recent storm left trees and limbs down in Walnut. Thanks to all those who helped clean them up.
Labor Day activities will start Sept. 5 with an open house at 8:30 a.m. at the Walnut Library and Community Center. Baby contest will be at 9 a.m. at the library. Parade entries will line up at 10 a.m., with the parade starting at 10:30 a.m. Gayle and Dwight Crapson will be grand marshals. Immediately following the parade will be a cake walk, kiddie tractor  pull and free watermelon feed in memory of Mike Fox. Horseshoe tournament will start at noon, with registration at 11:30 a.m. Tractor pull will be at 1  p.m. at the ball diamond, and children’s games will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the ball diamond. Greased pig contest and  goat chase will be at 1:30  p. m. Scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. on Main Street will be children’s activities, moon walk, slide, radar gun and train. Children’s contests at 2:30  p.m. on Main will be hula hoop, free throw, fastest pitch, turtle race and egg toss. There will be a street dance from 8 p.m. to midnight with music by Conway Jackson. Activities on Sept. 6 will be a lawn garden tractor pull at 1 p.m. on the ball diamond. The American Legion, Ruritan, Fire Department, Walnut Express and His-N-Hers will sell food and drink all day. Those coming should bring lawn chairs. Craft vendors are welcome to set up on Main Street. Anyone needing additional information may call 620-354-6716 or 620-354-6752.
