FRONTENAC — The Frontenac Raiders were victorious Friday night in their Homecoming showdown with the Riverton Rams. Although the Raiders had a rough start, they finished off the Rams 21-6.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my boys,” Frontenac head coach Kevin Carey said after the win. “They came out and played hard tonight, and it’s always nice to have a win on Homecoming.”

Riverton picked up its first touchdown early in the game with a 66-yard run by Chandler Underhill.

The Raiders answered at 7:01 of the first with a touchdown delivered by Ethan Powell and an extra point.

With less than two minutes left in the first quarter, Riverton’s Dylan Weaver intercepted a Devon Keith pass, giving the Rams possession of the ball. Fortunately for the Raiders, the blitzing game was on and with just seconds left on the clock, Cody Lindbloom gained his first of many sacks for the night.

“We knew we’d have to dial up some blitzes, and that’s exactly what we did.” Carey said. “Ultimately I think that’s what controlled the ball game, that our defensive line was able to control the line of scrimmage.”

The Raider defensive line kept that control for the rest of the half, adding four more sacks in the second quarter by Taylor Johnson, Cody Lindbloom and Brett Macary. The Raiders ended the second quarter leading 7-6.

Frontenac’s defense continued to roll over Riverton in the second half, with sacks by Johnson and Hunter Mulherin, as well as interceptions snagged by Tanner Craig and Caleb Spangler.

“We knew we’d have to put pressure on them,” Carey said. “We couldn’t just sit back and play zone coverage all night.”

The Raider offense wasn’t too bad either, with Bryce Burdette gaining over 100 rushing yards.

“That’s beginning to be a weekly occurrence for Burdette,” Carey said.

Frontenac (3-3 overall) faces Southeast next week at home for its district opener.
