Members will collect aluminum cans May 1 at Dillon’s parking lot.

Mirza Nobelles will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Bistro for lunch. Hostesses will be Maxine James and Marilyn Noble.

Senior Citizens Day
MIAMI, Okla. — Ottawa County Senior Citizens Day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Miami, Okla., Civic Center.
A free breakfast will be available for all those attending. More than 50 vendors will be taking part, and INTEGRIS Baptist Regional will offer several free health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, body fat analysis, memory loss screenings and strength and grip testing.
Mike Carpino Ford Mercury Inc. will provide a Pride Go-Go Ultra X as the grand door prize. A full-service dealership offering sales of new and pre-owned vehicles, a parts and service department and detail department, the business added a mobility department in 2005.

Bells of the Balkans
Bells of the Balkans will present a free public handbell concert at 11 a.m. at the Pittsburg Public Library.
The group will play several musical pieces, including “The Pink Panther” by Henry  Mancini; “All Night, All Day,” a spiritual; “Arioso,” J.S. Bach; and “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie “Titanic.” The concert will close with a medley called “The Best of John Williams,” featuring short excerpts from “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “The Olympic Fanfare,” “The Imperial March (Darth Vader’s Theme),” “The Cantina Band” and “Star Wars.”
The same concert will be repeated at 12:30 p.m. May 8 at the north end of Meadowbrook Mall.
Directed by Dr. Carolann Martin, the Bells of the Balkans ringers include JoAnn Huffman, Laura Lee, Donna Lyerla, Glenda Mays, Joyce Medford, Cyndy Moore, Patty Nicholas, Kathy Sanley, Gene Vollen and Marianne Wachter.
A reception will follow the performance.

Medicare program
FRANKLIN — A Medicare informational program will be presented at 2 p.m. at the Franklin Community Center and Heritage Museum, outlining changes that will be going into effect on June 1.
The event is being sponsored by Mutual of Omaha, but will be strictly informational, with no selling at the program.

Lions Club
Pittsburg Lions Club will meet at 5:15 p.m. at Schlanger Park to conduct a park clean-up.
A picnic/hamburger fry will follow at 6:30 p.m. in the Schlanger Park Community Center. Additional guests will include the Pittsburg Low Vision Support Group.

The four Pittsburg PEO chapters will attend Reciprocity hosted by Chapter BG at 6:30 p.m. in Girard.

GHS Boosters
GIRARD — Girard High School Booster Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. in Mr. Hudson’s room to elect officers for next year.

Music night
Bi-monthly music and dance night will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Homer Cole Community Center.
Music for listening and dancing is provided by area and local musicians. There is a $1 cover charge, and refreshments are potluck. Beverages are provided by the center.

Jazz concert
Pittsburg State University jazz program will present its final jazz performance of the 2009-2010 school year at 7:30 p.m. in Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium. The concert, open free to the public, will include classics like Buddy Rich’s “Channel One Suite” and “Norwegian Wood” plus Pat Metheny’s “Minuano” and works by Thelonious Monk, Gerry Mulligan, Horace Silver, Gordon Goodwin and Thad Jones.
Jazz Ensemble I will be under the direction of Bob Kehle. Jazz Ensemble II will be under the direction of Todd Hastings.

Elks bingo
Elks Lodge No. 412 will host bingo at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

Overeaters Anonymous
Overeaters Anonymous will meet at 6 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Arma bingo
ARMA — Arma American Legion Post 182 will sponsor bingo, open to the public, at the post home.
