It’s been quite a week in the world of Beto O’Rourke. He made an appearance at South by Southwest, his Vanity Fair profile came out this week and he officially announced his run for president. But one big talking point has also emerged, mainly from the Vanity Fair piece: O’Rourke’s dog Artemis and her mournful yet pensive stare on the bottom right corner of the cover.
“Man, I’m just born to be in it.” Beto O’Rourke seemed to come from nowhere to the brink of a presidential candidacy—but he’s been on this journey for his whole life. O’Rourke spoke with Joe Hagan. Artemis successfully stole the show, even though she did literally nothing but walk around and intensely look at stuff.

Her soulful eyes and thousand-yard stare has elicited questions like, “Does Beto O’Rourke’s dog want him to run for president?” and “What is Beto’s dog thinking?” Frankly, these are great questions, and we should all engage in political discussion with our dogs more. Artemis looks like she has some very thoughtful and well-formed opinions.

Some may say she looks sad or depressed. I think she’s just tired of all the attention and would rather lay down for a long nap and forget about the prospect of more campaigning.

Completely forgetting that her dog dad just announced his candidacy, people are already calling for an Artemis 2020 campaign. If she won, what would that make O’Rourke? First Owner? First Man Friend? How would O’Rourke feel if he lost to his own dog?

If you vote for Artemis, I wouldn’t blame you. She seems like a very good girl.
Kids and I agree that Artemis is best in show.#NationalDogShowpic.twitter.com/LahNLojca0— Rep. Beto O'Rourke (@RepBetoORourke)November 23, 2017
