A year ago, space was at a premium for the Arma City Library.
“We were out of space for books,” said library director Brenda Banks. “It was just so small.”
She said only one person could be behind the circulation desk at a time and the overall arrangement presented a challenge.

Pittsburg Post 64 played late into Father’s Day, closing out the Pittsburg Legion/Fort Scott CC Classic at JayCee Ballpark with a Sunday night doubleheader against the Mount Vernon 39ers and the KC Yankees.
Post 64 played like two different teams, losing 8-1 to Mount Vernon and winning 10-3 against the KC Yankees for the split.
“The first game, we were just really flat and had no energy,” Post 64 head coach Mike Watt said. “We had no energy at all and it showed up in the game. We weren’t mentally ready to play. We weren’t very good in that first game.
“We’ve talked to them a lot about it’s easy to have energy when things are going well. You’ve got to have the energy even when things aren’t going well and that’s how you fight through those tough periods. We’re a very talented team. We’re a veteran team. We just have got to work on our energy level. If we go into Omaha with not much energy, it’s going to be tough to win. We’re going to have to be focused and ready to go.”

Pittsburg Post 64 was scheduled to play the late game Saturday night against the Andover Trojans and the early game this morning against the Neosho Wildcats. Now, weather permitting, Post 64 will play a 6:45 p.m. game tonight against Neosho.
JayCee Ballpark was recently flooded in the outfield (especially in right field) and the first base dugout, forcing the traditional season-opening Wood Bat Tournament to be rescheduled and moved across state lines to Neosho, Mo., where Post 64 played Sunday games against Kickapoo and Carthage.
Post 64 enters today with a 5-3-1 overall record after eking out a 6-5 win over the Mount Vernon 39ers and ending in a 3-all stalemate with Kansas Crush Elite on Friday.
Nicole Meyer-Foresman’s “Tribute to the Amazon Army” bucket didn’t actually weigh in at 16 tons, nor was it full of No. 9 coal, but that didn’t stop SEK Art Fest volunteers from humming a few bars of the classic tune as they unloaded the bucket and placed it on the west side of Broadway just north of Second Street Friday morning.
The bucket, which is done in clay, actually is closer to 300 pounds, but portrays a notable piece of Southeast Kansas coal mining history and calls to mind the song with its story as well as its weight.
