Pittsburg softball improved to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in the Southeast Kansas League with a 13-6 win Tuesday over visiting Labette County, propelled by a six-run rally in the third that put the Purple Dragons up 8-0 after three innings.
Brecken Campbell hit a solo home run and six batters combined for 12 hits with three each from Kenleigh Warford and Micah Gomez and two each from Campbell and Breck Slaughter. Gomez tripled and Slaughter, Brette Pasteur and Laney Trisler each doubled. Campbell, Pasteur and Warford each scored twice and Trisler drove in three runs.
Slaughter earned the win and she scattered six runs (five earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts and three walks over seven innings. She finished at 111 pitches.
The Dragons scored three in the fourth and two in the fifth, answering right back after the Grizzlies scored four in their half of the fourth and one in their half of the fifth.
Pittsburg scored eight unanswered after Labette County jumped out 1-0 in the first.
Karsyn Bates hit a grand slam in the fourth to provide the Grizzlies their biggest highlight.
Pittsburg returns home Thursday against Independence (9-10) and then play Kansas City Piper (3-15 entering Thursday against Tonganoxie) and Class 6A school Shawnee Mission Northwest (6-15) on Saturday at Piper.
